River Sand
Natural river sand is the most preferred choice as a fine aggregates materials. River sand is a product of natural weathering of rocks over a period of millions of years. It is mined from river beds river sand is far superior for construction purposes than any other sand used in construction.
Sand is natural occurring granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles. Beauty of river sand it contains natural composed of rounded particles and granules in it. It commonly divided into 3 grades as coarse, medium, and fine sand depends on its textural compositions. Generally in construction coarse sand which aggregates retained 4.75 MM in IS sieve, using for concrete works as a filling materials. And fine sand which aggregates passing through 4.75 MM IS sieve and retained on 75 MM micron sieve using for plastering and other construction requirements.
Due to large scale urbanisation and big township there has been a huge demand in the consumption of river sand in Bangalore. After introducing M-sand (manufacturing sand) demand for river sand declined in 80%. In 2013 per day 2000 trucks of river sand were supplying to Bangalore where as 130 to 150 trucks of river sand supplying to Bangalore in 2018. Now M - sand using as alternative or substitute materials to river sand but still river sand has its own demand for its natural characteristics and traits.
